It's in Our Genes®
Sustainability
Sustainability isn't just something we practice; it is part of who we are as a company and as global citizens.

With an ownership structure that directs over 40% of our profits to fund medical research, we attract employees motivated to make a difference and develop investment teams who weigh more than just traditional financial criteria in their analyses.
Many investors are recognizing the value of investing in strategies that seek to improve our collective world. But some fear this approach can compromise investment outcomes. At American Century Investments, we are committed to delivering investment performance and making a difference. We are proud of our history of helping clients achieve financial success while also impacting society in a positive way.
Ownership Structure
With the most unique ownership structure in the industry, doing good is at the heart of who we are.
We believe we can add alpha for our clients while benefiting humankind.
Corporate Responsibility
Good begets good. We see the work we do driving progress in the medical community, creating a natural drive to give our all to every Corporate Responsibility initiative we pursue.
Sustainable Investing
We seek to deliver value to our clients by applying an investment-led approach to sustainability when consistent with our fiduciary duty. Given the significant proportion of an investment’s market value that is now comprised of intangibles, the long-term viability of a company’s business model and durability of a borrower’s cash flow can be increasingly influenced by material sustainability factors.

Alpha is typically used to represent the value added or subtracted by active investment management strategies. It shows how an actively managed investment portfolio performed compared with the expected portfolio returns produced simply by benchmark volatility (beta) and market changes. A positive alpha shows that an investment manager has been able to capture more of the upside movement in the benchmark while softening the downswings. A negative alpha means that the manager's strategies have caught more benchmark downside than upside.
Sustainability focuses on meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs. There are many different approaches to Sustainability, with motives varying from positive societal impact, to wanting to achieve competitive financial results, or both. Methods of sustainable investing include active share ownership, integration of ESG factors, thematic investing, impact investing and exclusion among others.
